Did some speeding through traffic with a Z4 on the commute today. Have I mentioned I really want this car?
Most of the time when I see another sports car its either going the speed limit or 20 over while driving like a complete D-bag. I seem to run across the middle ground less & less these days. But today myself and a Z4 made good time while not being complete asses. Then when we parted ways, we both gave each other the 'ol nod.
I want this car just a little bit more now.

But why get it with a retractable hardtop when you can have a fastback or a softtop for adding lightness?

I had a guy in a Corvette checking out my ride and gave me the thumbs up. Corvairs are awesome.

IMO it looks better when its up and I'd be willing to bet its a fair amount quieter when its up too.
For me it would be a DD, not a track car.

Without a doubt, not to mention anyone with a classic car is 100% an enthusiast. I'd give ya a thumbs up too.

I'd take the E86 fastback in that case.

I love when something like that happens.
Years ago when I had this Suburban, I was going to the movies and there was a some people with muscle cars lined up at the sidewalk revving their cars. If I remember correctly there was a newer GTO, Charger, Trans Am WS6, and a late 90's Mustang. As I approached them I put it in neutral(auto) and revved the engine a few times. This had a 454 with flowmaster 40's on, so it was a bit loud. Completely drowned out their cars. I went and parked kind of far away, watched the movie and when I came back out they were all parked next to me.
I thought it was a nice show of respect. These newer modified cars next to a $250 rusty truck.

So when I was rolling in my grandma's mint condition 1984 chevrolet celebrity I'd get an automatic thumbs up? :D

I had a half moment like this. Ran side by side with a ricer in his EK hatch.
We did a little glance and nod, I hid my look of disgust, and he made fart noises with his exhaust. I gave him a little 3rd gear pull to avoid the awkwardness of rolling side by side, he farted his way ahead of me then turned at the next light.
Mutual respect? Ehhh...I can't hate TOO much, but his car was loud and annoying.

Haha awesome story. I had a similar experience once. Used to have a beater SC400 (cheap V8s right?) that I cut the exhaust off of and I had a rev off with a M6 at a light. Obviously he could walk all over me so we were both just laughing and having fun.

On a to Chicago two years ago, we picked up a follower in an Acura 3.2TL/CL (can't remember which). They followed us for close to two hours. At one point, while my dad was behind a semi that was passing another semi, a little Saturn coupe came flying up on the left around the line of traffic and cut us off VERY close. My dad laid on the horn, and as soon as the truck moved the Saturn took of. Happily, it is not hard to outrun an 90hp Saturn, so my dad floored it, passed him on the right, and cut in front in time to box him in behind the next truck. We sat next to that truck for a minute or two, with the Saturn tailgating furiously, then sped up a little and moved right. Sure enough, the Saturn shot around us again, but right on his tail was that Acura, which also had more engine than the Saturn. The folks in the Acura gave us a wave and a thumbs up, then proceeded to blast past the Saturn, get along side the next big rig, and play the same game we had with the asshole. Needless to say, the guy in the Saturn slowed down after that.

That car would be 30 years old now, I believe enough to qualify for historic plates in almost any state. Besides, you're right. Hers was a base model or something old-personish. Now if I was in the Eurosport VR? HOLD ON NOW! Your mind would be so blown.......

I'm just not sold on retractable hardtops. Hence why I have an E85 Z4.

But I do agree that fabric tops in certain climates are less than desirable.
But for these times, that's why I have the Mini.

I like how the publicity photo that has been clearly edited and touched up still makes it look like the bumpers aren't quite molded accurately and the panel gaps are atrocious.

I've had quite a few cases of mutual respect. The latest one I can recall was last weekend. Went to Leavenworth, and was keeping up with my stepdad. In between us was a line of 6 cars. A Toyota 4-runner decided to drive in the overtaking lane on the one mile long piece of road with the overtaking lane. A driver in a '96 Chrysler something saw this, accelerated up to 80 in the right hand lane, and let me pass on the right. After doing this, I let him go ahead of me, and we proceeded to both overtake the remaining cars. He noticed I was trying to keep up with my stepdad's GTi, and proceeded to slow down (again) and move to the right, and left me just enough overtaking lane to get behind my stepdad. As I went past him, we exchanged thumbs-ups!
Another example I can recall was last summer coming back from lake Tahoe on Hwy 97 in Oregon. Speed limit? 60 Our speed? 85 Avg. again, we were trying to keep up with my stepdad's GTi. He'd overtake someone, then we'd overtake someone. For a good 50 miles of this really straight road, there was a white Citadel trip Durango shadowing is. He was driving the same speed as us, and at one point was ahead of us, taking point duty for a 5-10 mile stretch of road. Behind him was a B5 A4 and an MS3, all pacing us as well. We all wound up stopping at the same rest stop (only one for about 50 miles) and had a friendly talk about our roadtrips. Wished the guys in the mazda and Audi safe trips, and then proceeded yet another 50 miles with the Durango, GTi and Jetta swapping point duties. The family in the Durango turned to Portland, and we exchanged waves and thumbs-ups
similarly minded people on the roads are cool!
